Why is my Rechargeable Refill is Not Full? The amount of liquid in each rechargeable cartridge varies depending on the number of protection hours. For our larger cartridges, a 40-hour refill will be completely full, while a 36-hour refill will have slightly less liquid. For our smaller cartridges, the 18 hour will be about ½ full, the 12 hour will be about ¼ full, and the 8 hour will be just below ¼ full. Please click here for a visual chart of all refill levels.

What are the main ingredients in Thermacell products? Our products contain active ingredients that repel mosquitos and inactive ingredients that assist with their release into the air. Our rechargeable platform repellent cartridges use metofluthrin as the repellent active ingredient. The fuel powered repellers use allethrin as the active ingredient.
What are the types of mosquitoes do Thermacell products repel? Thermacell products repel against various species of mosquitoes. We have tested our product against the Western Africa, Asian Tiger, Yellow Fever, mosquitoes and found it to be effective against all of them. If traveling to regions where malaria is present, then we recommend speaking to your physician about malaria prophylaxis prior to leaving.
Can I use Thermacell in the rain? Do not expose Thermacell appliances or mats to rain. Their effectiveness may be diminished. If your Thermacell device does gets wet, please ensure it is fully dry inside and out before your next use.
Can I use Thermacell in windy conditions? In breezy weather, place the unit upwind of your location so that the repellent is carried by the wind into the area you want to protect. Thermacell may be less effective on very windy days, although mosquitoes aren’t typically out when it is very windy.
Can I use Thermacell repellers indoors? Thermacell products are for outdoor use only and should not be used in enclosed spaces. You should always follow label use instructions.
Can I use Thermacell products in high altitudes? Can I bring Thermacell products on a plane? Thermacell Fuel/Mat powered products can not be taken on a passenger aircraft. We typically suggest that you bring your Thermacell repeller and the mats with you, but purchase the fuel cartridges at your destination, if possible. Please, click here for a list of retailers in the United States or Canada.Our Rechargeable/battery powered products(Radius, E-Series, EX-Series, EL-Series repellers) and Backpacker can be taken on aircrafts. The FAA recommends any devices containing lithium-ion batteries be carried in a carry-on luggage.
